Why etch with etchIDENT
One
of the current and most urgent needs uncovered in our market research
is Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) etching onto automobile glass.
The
reason this is such an urgent need is that auto and truck theft is at
an all time high. The FBI Uniform Crime Report states that over a million
vehicles are stolen each year. This crime costs all of us in the form
of higher insurance premiums and use of law enforcement resources.
The fact is, vehicle theft is a business. Car thieves steal cars that can be resold as is or for parts, primarily body parts such as doors, trunk and hood lids, bumpers, etc.
Some newer cars have the Vehicle Identification Number affixed to these parts. But not all cars are protected in this manner. Most older cars, imported cars as well as classic and antique cars do not have this limited protection. And at best, VIN numbered auto parts only aid in identification after the car has been stolen and recovered. It does nothing to help prevent the theft in the first place.
By permanently etching a vehicle’s VIN number onto all of a vehicle’s glass provides a visible sign to car thieves that this car is not profitable for them to steal! It would cost the thief too much money to have to destroy and replace hundreds of pounds of glass. The bottom line is, it is simply easier to steal a different vehicle!
