The “Flamboyant Flamingo”

Designer: Patty Sepp

August 10, 2023

Step 1

I was recently shopping in the 99¢ Store and found many summer items on clearance. This metal flamingo was one of them for $2.00. It is about 13” high and has circles for its feathers and glass gems inside of each circle.

One side where the flamingo was facing right had 5 circles. The other side facing left had 6 circles.

Step 2

I decided to remove the glass gems and etch them in Etchall® dip ’n etch. I placed the Etchall® dip ’n etch liquid in a plastic container, put in the gems, and let it set for 15 min. You cannot see the gems in the liquid, so I took a photo before adding the last 2 gems. (Photo 3) My Etchall® dip ’n etch is very dark as it is an older liquid, but it etched fine. After 15 minutes I removed the glass gems and rinsed them off in a non-porcelain sink.

Step 3

Here is the flamingo with the glass gems in front of the container. There are 5 etched for the right side with a few of the non-etched gems that will be etched for the back side.

The final photo is the gems put back into his wing area and vinyl words attached to each stone that said, “STAND OUT IN A CROWD” made from my silhouette machine.

I’ll be putting my Flamboyant Flamingo out on my patio as a centerpiece.

Enjoy the final days of summer
